| Notice: Beginning January 1, 2008 and ending November 15, 2009. All licenses must now submit 30 contact hours of continuing education for the two year license period. Persons obtaining their initial license after January 1, 2009 are required to submit 15 hours. If initial license is obtained after July 1, 2009, there is no hour requirement, for this current licensing period only! |
Notice - To ensure you have met the continuing education requirement for the upcoming licensure renewal, please plan ahead and seek pre-approval of continuing education programs NOT provided by NDBSWE approved providers! To request pre-approval, submit a written request for pre-approval along with a copy of the program description and agenda to the Board office. You will be notified in writing whether or not the program is approved. If the program is approved, you must submit an "Individual License holder's Application for Program Approval", the $10.00 processing fee, a copy of the approval letter, and a copy of the completion certificate to the Board office in order to receive credit.
Notice - As of March
1, 2002 all continuing education programs endorsed by either ASWB or
NASW are approved by NDBSWE. To receive credit, you must submit a
certificate of completion which contains your name, program title, hours
earned, and the ASWB or NASW endorsement.

Continuing Education Opportunities for Social Workers
Scholarship Deadline Extended to August 31, 2010
A scholarship that covers the registration fee for the Mental Health and Aging program has been extended to August 31, 2010. The scholarship is available to a limited number of long-term care professionals who work in North Dakota. Participants will need to register for the program by August 31 and will have one year for completion.
The Mental Health and Aging program offers 13 continuing education hours and is perfect for social workers, nurses, counselors and psychologists who work with aging clients.
This program is offered by NDSU Distance and Continuing Education and the Gerontology program in the College of Human Development and Education.

Terrance W. Barrett, PhD. presents, Treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder-Related Nightmares, a seminar that will review the overall experience of PTSD as well as include topics such as:
- Introduce interaction of traumatic events, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks and nightmares.
- Discuss the impact of interrupted sleep patterns and unmanaged nightmares.
- Outline the nature of PDSD-related nightmares in contrast to general nightmares.
This workshop is 5.5 contact hours.

Q: How do I report my continuing education hours?A: For programs that are not pre-approved by the NDBSWE, a licensed social worker must fill out the Individual License Holders Application for Program Approval or $10 form.
Q: Can I request a waiver for my continuing education hours?
A: Yes, however very few are granted. All requests must be made in writing prior to the end of the renewal period. The board will look at each request on a case by case situation.
